Class 1

Welcome to our class!

Your teacher is called Miss Ogle and your Early Years Practitioners are Miss Hall and Mrs Spark.

Oh Dear!

We arrived at school this morning and discovered we've had a visitor. We found a broken chair, some porridge, three bowls and three spoons and someone ASLEEP in bed!

Who could it be?

Use the clues and work out which story they are from!

Tuesday 19th December

Reception took part in a special christingle service.

We learnt what each part of the christingle stood for, sang some songs and watched as the candles were lit.

Can you remember what the orange represents?

What about the red ribbon?

What do the cocktail sticks and sweets stand for?

Can you remember what the candle symbolises?

Autumn 2 Term

Well! What a busy half term we have had.

We have been learning all about space this half term and focussing on the story 'Whatever Next'. We have learned the story and text mapped it together, learning it off by heart. We then retold the story using story language and then wrote labels and captions to go with it.

To start our topic we were very lucky to have our very own planetarium in school - it was so big it filled the hall! We crawled inside to learn what it is like in space. We learned about the different stars and how they form to make pictures in the sky. We also learned that there is no gravity and that it is really dark!

In maths, we have been learning to count out sets of objects and then finding how many we have altogether bu counting two sets together. We have also been busy in our shop using money to pay for items we have bought and learning to recognise the different coins.

As we have moved through the half term we have been practising for our Nativity production which we will be perfoming on Tuesday 12th Decemeber - check back soon for photographs of our performance!

Our first half term!

We have settled well into our new class this year and we have been very busy exploring and learning.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning the story 'The Little Red Hen' and we are now brilliant story tellers! We learned the story by using a text map and we have now even made up our own version of the story by changing the characters and the setting - it's now called the 'The Big Purple Fish' and he asks the unicorn, the guinea pig and the frog to help him make the bread!

We have also been very busy learning to recognise numbers, order numbers and even find one more and one less than a given number. We have used objects and number lines to help us - we even got to eat the raisens when we'd finished! In our last week of the half term we are learning about length and using terms 'longer' and shorter' to describe objects around the classroom.

It has been a brilliant start to the year and we are looking forward to our next topic in Autumn 2 which is all about 'space'.
