Wow, what an amazing Friday!
The children in Reception had a fantastic day celebrating Diwali. They listened to the story of Rama and Sita and talked about why people celebrate Diwali, and how it is celebrated.
The children took part in lots of Diwali themed activities throughout the week. They were able to develop their fine motor skills by; designing Rangoli patterns using different coloured beads, making diva lamps, designing their own Mehndi hands, making swirly patterns in the sand and colouring a variety of pictures from the story.
In the afternoon, the children had their own 'Festival of Light'. In the hall, the lights were dimmed, Diwali music was played and new dance moves were learnt. Then everyone came together, sat round in a circle, and held their own diva lamp with the lights out, listening to some beautiful music.
Finally, to end the afternoon, all the children tried different types of Asian food. The poppadoms were a big hit!
This first half term we have been learning about signs of Autumn and the changes that happen. We have painted our own Autumn tree pictures, mixing colours to make browns and other Autumn colours to paint the leaves.
We have also enjoyed learning about authors and have been reading lots of Julia Donaldson stories over the last few weeks - have have loved listening to the stories and identifying words that ryhme!
Our gerbils Rosie and Josie have been exercising around the classroom - they now have a ball they can run around in and we have enjoyed watching them and learning how to be gentle when they are on the move!
Our first couple of weeks in Reception!
We have been very busy in Reception since we started school at the beginning of September. The children have settled in well and are enjoying exploring what we can do in Reception.
We have been learning our shared class rules and routines, as well as making new friends.
We also have two new pet gerbils in Reception this year and as a unit, we have named them Rosie and Josie. We are learning about how to look after them and what sorts of things they like to eat.
